Growing conditions: Aloe microstigma grows on rocky outcrops, sometimes on steep slopes, in karroid, desert, semidesert, and Namaqua Broken Veld vegetation.
Regional variations: Aloe khamiesensis is treated as conspecific with A. microstigma by certain authors, while plants attributed to the eastern form of A. gariepensis are considered by some to be a possible variant of A. microstigma.
